Historic Preservation on Church Street
After hearing that the house at 215 N Church Street was voted one of the Top Ten Endangered Properties, Tupelo resident Brad Prewitt took on the arduous process of purchasing and renovating it. The house is one of the few remaining properties that was not destroyed in the 1936 tornado or subsequently demolished. Prewitt is in the process of gutting and restoring the two-story bungalow. He has already gotten preliminary approval by the National Register of Historic Places and is continuing the process of having the house certified. The City of Tupelo is grateful for Prewitt and other residents like him who are working to recognize and rehabilitate the historic properties we are fortunate to have here.
